These are my snapshot artists taken from last weekend’s KCRW sets. Definitely strong 2020 favorites who have been putting in work for some time.
Xinxin
I’m booking the 3rd year’s City Beats series and one of the names that keeps popping up among my favorite bands are Xin Xin. I can’t get enough of this band. Simple tones and sounds and when you least expect it elements of Hiatus Kiayote and jazz come into play.
Jadu Heart
Im bout this! The UK duo have been putting in work since 2016 (and possibly prior) and have previously teamed with Mura Masa. Looking forward to digging deep into their catalogue.
Willie Griffin
The minute I hit play on this 1984 nugget, it punched me in the gut. Dallas singer/songwriter Willie Griffin hit it with this double time gem. Self taught on the guitar (at times it shows but masterfully with his playful notes). Grab it!
Zack Villere
Zack has this brilliant young mind. He’s not only a sonic maestro but also visual artist. His DIY videos always have a sense of humor even when he’s pouring out his heart and soul. He’s on currently on tour so make sure to catch him live!
Bel Cobain
This voice! Those beats! A grand marriage between the two that automatically take you to 2:34 am. London’s very own delivers on Introverted Stoner. The minute I hit play on this cut I was drawn to her style.
