Omid is one of my first guest’s that I had on back when I had a radio show over at KCSN in 03. 12 years later we bring it in full circle and he’s still hard at work with his recent release entitled “Modern Persian Speech Sounds” which I play on my KCRW show. But one of the other reasons I wanted to bring in Omid on the podcast was for him to share his knowledge of Los Angeles’s musical landscape dating back to the late 90’s.

He too was a kid who loved taping radio programs including Michael Mixxin Moor, Mike Nardone and Rob One of the Fly ID show. We also speaks fondly of his days venturing to The Good Life and Project Blowed. He also speaks of his role as Music Supervisor on the recent Good Life documentary which was directed by Ava DuVernay. And little did I know she was an emcee at The Good Life!

** Also as a bonus, Omid crafts a special mix for this episode which includes some unreleased material as well as personal favorites. And it’s got some heaters! Im super proud of this episode! Also make sure to stay up to date with his work via his souncloud page.  Hope you enjoy this week’s episode!

Traveling across the US this year and engaging with listeners of the weekly radio show has really taught me about the power of radio. I always mention that being on at midnight makes you wonder who is listening. But talking to folks and hearing that it kicks off their week on a positive note makes it all worth it. I have heard testimonials that have choked me up. I look forward every Monday night coming into the basement with a record bag full of music I love and connecting with listeners.  Hope you might join me tonight at Midnight at 89.9 FM and worldwide at KCRW.com! Become a part of the family! Tune in!

My next album is set for March 18th on Plug Research! Here is the tracklist, artwork and featured guests on the new record. Obviously there are many many artists I would love to have collaborated but I’m happy with this bunch. These are artists who I respect and have featured either on my blog or radio show. You can pre order the record via I tunes  or pick up a copy via the kind folks at Daylight Curfew and pick up an ANTVALA shirt! Below is the album’s first single! I am looking forward to sharing these amazing songs with you that we recorded over the course of a year. I am proud of this record.

Connan popped up on my radar a few months back with the release of Caramel, a sonic journey through sexy cool mixed with  lush vox and guitar chords. Connan guides the narrative with various vocal pitches that are perfect for a lazy Sunday morning.  He breaks down the process of recording this record while in Tokyo holed up in his hotel room. Hope you dig! And check out previous episodes here!
