First! Let me state, this is not the end all be all of the next generation of emcees! These are a few off the top of my head. I always try to distance myself from musical purists and folks who live in the past by stating “It’s not like the old days”. I love what’s new and aways pride myself by embracing the new. I love where music is going across the musical spectrum and I love this shift in Rap today. The next generation of creatives are not only mastering the art of rhyme but the hustle of social media, beat making and producing content to push their brand. These are a few examples. Let me know what you think! Hit me on twitter at @AnthonyValadez and send me your list of emcees, artists who are making moves.

Only 17 years old, Bishop Nehru sounds like an experience veteran storyteller on the mic. We got to chop it up at SXSW where saw first hand his shyness when around new energy but after minutes of hanging he begins to get excited when talking about new projects. I found myself at the Mass Appeal jump off in Austin and was super excited for him when NAS brought him on stage and proclaimed him the future of rap music. Grab his latest, Nehruvia here.

Clear Soul Forces remind me of something you might have listened to in the Summer of 94. Get No Better was my first introduction to the group’s style. I love the rhymes and specifically their beat selection and word play with each other’s cadences. Go cop their latest album entitled Gold PP7!

CW

Chester Watson delivers with his monotone style. Phantom popped up on my radar at SXSW via word of mouth. There will never be another Guru however it’s great to see a young emcee deliver in the same form and still execute such passion. Grab his latest free release here.

waldo

Waldo plays with a simple vocal delivery that could easily land him a record deal on the majors and commercial radio but then hits you up aside the head with a metaphor that might be too heavy for them. Waldo also has some of the best beats in the game that match his flow perfectly. Easily one of my faves!

Gagle hails out of Japan on the Jazzysport label. They have been sending me some quality music for a minute and through this relationship I have been able to discover a lot of their sounds. It’s obvious I can’t understand a single word from Gagle but I still sense the passion and skills behind the mic.

Super good to be back on LA’s airwaves after a 2 week break thank in part to musical adventures across the country. Nothing beats being at home with my pup, eating at my local eateries and being back in the basement on Monday nights. New gems from Waldo with the Sango revision plus cuts from Jay Electronica, Oscar Key Sung, Jazzanova on the remix tip. On the young rap front, cuts from Nia Keturah, Chester Watson and Bishop Nehru who I saw at SXSW and kilt it to the point Nas had to come out and give this young emcee the co/sign. Speaking of Nas I dropped One Love in honor of the 20 year Anniversary of Illmatic. Personal favorites include the new Metronomy, BadBadNotGood and Schoolboy Q. Everything else is just fire! Hope you dig!

Another incredible year at Mass Appeal’s SXSW Jump off featuring BadBadNotGoodBishop Nehru, ASAP MOB, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, B.O.B, Future, NAS and much more. It was my final show before catching a plane back to LA. I had to head out before catching a taxi but when NAS began doing The World Is Yours, Nas Is Like and various other classics I delayed and it was totally worth it. Hope you dig these snapshots taken last night.

These posts have been fun. I have received lots of great feedback regarding things I find around the net. I spend way too much time searching for music, clothing and gadgets on the net and often come across things I want to share. I try consolodate a lot of what I find into these posts. We are on Volume 6! Get to know of a few of my favorite musical gems + fashion brands.

_______________________________

I’m yet to get a feel in regards to the clothing but I do love the philosophy behind their brand. I also dig how they incorporate the inspiration of NYC and it’s dirty and f$&*ked up ways into their philosophy. It’s quite an inspirational video in how they developed their product and turning down a deal with Urban Outfitters. Peep the vid and check out their shop!

If you listen to my Monday night radio show odds are you have heard Mara Hruby in one of my sets. She’s set to drop a new EP of songs as a reflection of a recent heartbreak. I had the chance to chop it up with her yesterday and looking forward hearing more of these gems. In the mean time grab her single!

“I’m also discovering myself as I discover product” This quote is powerful and I can draw parallels between the content I come across here that impacts me to want to share it on this blog. I dig Hiroki’s perspective of fashion and longevity. At 35 I have come to realize that If I purchase something to wear I need to be able to pull it out of the closet 10 years later or else I am not purchasing it. Check them out.

This is a great Roy Ayers cover by Reginald Omas Mamode IV. He’s another Monday night favorite on my radio show. A very mysterious musical figure with a great soul edge to his work complete with crisp drums and samples.

The whole concept of making a statement with what you are wearing is hit on the head via Co-founder Ouigi Theodore Of Brooklyn Circus. I love this shop up on the Bay Area. They understand the importance of communication via the net in understanding of business owners caring about their customers. Get hip to them!

I love this kid! 17 years old out of NYC and set to rock SXSW this year. Somewhere on the net you might be able to find his “Stressin” track produced by Disclosure. Peep the vid.

Hey! New week and new list of thing’s I’m digging. Volume 3. Every morning I wake up and check out blogs and find interesting things that I love sharing.  So this is my wrap up. Ps! Did you listen to last night’s radio show? Did you peep the podcast with this week’s guests? Have a great evening!

New Disclosure production working with NYC’s Bishop Nehru! Nice to hear Disclosure work in a slower bpm format on this. Looking forward to hearing more of this! I’m on track 3 of his Nehruvia mix tape and pretty solid. Download more of Bishop’s work.

Damon Albarn returns with this great track and video for his solo debut release. All these years with Blur, Gorillaz and various projects you would have thought he might have had something out. I’m digging this cut! The utilization of keys and strings are nice!

I’m not sure what’s going on below but the font’s are on point and perfectly spaced. By no means am I promoting this show. If you go, cool. Let me know how it went but the spacing of the letters are on point!

Big thanks to Nikki Jean for swinging through the basement this past Monday and hanging. Future guest on the podcast? Hmmmmmmm… Maybe? Peep her new video!

Breakfast at Zelda’s in Venice was cool. Living here 5 years and just got hip to the mini donuts. Super good! If your in the area make sure to stop by and pay them a visit!

Hurry Curry is no joke! Heavy on the tummy even though. I geeked out on the Chicken and Nan. Pretty cool little spot on Venice Blvd. But this shot pretty sums up the vibe. Not exactly sure how tho’.
