Gem discovery of the year comes from Melbourne’s 30/70 from a record that dropped a few years ago.  Also James Blake returns with a cover of a classic, plus Art Feynman kills it on a low fi four on the floor banger entitled “Shelter“. Wheeew! Right before heading into the basement for this show I came straight from a gig in DTLA and recorded two podcasts along the way then went into the studio and it was my cool down time! It’s about that time! Grammy campaign to create the buzz for the awards show later in the month. Remember when I appeared next to Snoop, Rihanna, Nas and Taylor Swift on this ad? I do! Ha. Anyhoo, I am digging these new campaign ad’s that allow you into the artist’s lives. I saw a cool one on Kendrick but this one caught my attention. It’s great to hear JB talk about watching dj’s and then becoming one.  Watch!

The song has been out and floating on the net but finally a video which features the two rolling around in a drop top. Chance is really shaking up 2013 with his ACID RAP mix tape, feature on the new Red Hot Fela feature and appearances on HOT97.  This time around we see him with electro soul crooner James Blake for an interesting blend of two separate worlds that work perfectly.

Not my favorite song on the album but brand spanking new. Played a couple of his tracks of his latest record last week on my radio show. James Blake after midnight is the right fit folks or during a daytime photoshop session! The record is impressive. We will wee if stands the test of time like the Toro Y Moi or Kendrick record. Best show ever!  I think I was implanted on Earth on April 12th 1978 just for this show!  From the start it felt right. Im very tactical in musical placement and sometimes one song can throw off the vibe for me. But this is just full of new heat from Saux, Okapii, Dj A1, Jaw Jam, Cashmere Cat, James Blake, Nanna B, Twinsmatic plus classics from Donald Byrd, Stevie and on and on. I have been on this real soul kick as of late and so I broke out the Weeknd, Jhene Aiko and Jeremih records. Something about that dark soul at 2 am that just feels right.  And make sure to listen to the closer of the program that comes to us via France. The project is entitled Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo from All City!  Perfect way to end the vibes.
