Welcome back! New + recent bin finds from some of my favorites. This week we travel to Brooklyn, Tokyo, Memphis and check out a new releases from the almighty Jeff Parker. A quick reminder, these gems were all featured on last week’s KCRW set which you can listen to here!
TAKASHI YOSHIMATSU – THE AGE OF BIRDS , OP 25
Takashi is a contemporary composer and still active in music today at the age of 66. In 1974 his stylings were inspired by Pink Floyd. Currently he is into illustration and drawing. Any person that loves to doodle and utilizes heavy strings in their music is okay with me!
KOTA THE FRIEND – SATURDAY
Brooklyn’s very own Kota The Friend is a sonic blend that reminds of me Saba and the Chicago sound but with a solid twist and with his own unique styling. Saturday is a testament to him bringing something new in music today.
MULHERIN – ALL TO MYSELF
Not sure how I found about these two. Maybe on Zack Villere’s twitter feed or on Heard Well, regardless tho, Parker and Marshall connect on some solid material connecting LA and Memphis. Catch them on tour! Dates here.
JUSTICE DER – NIKES
Justice Der covers have been my soundtrack for the past 3 years. It’ my go to during my radio show during certain reflective moods. His Frank Ocean covers add depth to already deep sounds. It will be a matter of time before Justice is in the studio with sonic heavyweights and his own material reaches the masses.
JEFF PARKER – 3 FOR L
Chicago’s Jeff Parker is back with a new album on International Anthem titled Sweet for Max Brown. As usual, its nothing but hot sauce for the soul. Jeff never ceases to amaze me with his skill and precision behind the guitar.
ANTHONY VALADEZ
