I’m super excited about curating this year’s talent at FIGat7th in DTLA. CITY VIBES is about showcasing locals and folks we simply love. I can’t spell the beans just yet but so far things are looking super soulful and I also brought on board a few buddies of mine to curate some special editions.  But our first edition is this Saturday and none other than RES!

RES and I use to do shows at the now defunct TempleBar and Little Temple.  I use to love opening for her cause you never really knew what she would do or who she would bring up stage. There was that one night she had a little known artist by the name of Santigold open up. I also had the pleasure of hitting the road with RES as we opened for Jean Grae and Talib Kweli in various cities. It was a real eye opening experience for me for to work with live musicians and provide the scratches and string samples.

This Saturday I hope you might join us for live music at FIGat7th! Come through and enjoy all the cool eateries in the area! I’ll be there as well hanging out and playing some records. Would love to see you there this Saturday. Swing through! It’s our pre Saturday night get down before I have to head to Sayers in Hollywood! (plug).

It’s been fun rocking with Hiatus Kaiyote’s Socal tour dates at The Roxy and The Constellation Room in the OC.  Both sold out shows were packed with fans who came out in full support. Big love to Low Leaf and Kadhja Bonnet. It’s always fun watching how crowds react to their artistry on stage.  If you don’t have their new album, get it. Choose Your Weapon is out now! Also shout outs to Si, Scott + Marek!

 It’s the return of Grammy Nominated singer/songwriter Emily King to the podcast! This time my pal and colleague Aaron Byrd joins me with co-hosting duties as we talk with Emily about her creative influences in piecing together her forthcoming album entitled The Switch which drops June 26th! Emily also blesses the microphone with a live 2 song set including the title track and one of our personal favorites, Distance.  Hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed hearing about Aaron’s owl tales in Peru!  Enjoy!

I got the call at the very last minute, totally unprepared with I Phone voice memo in hand and got to chat with turntabilist/record collector/producer Cut Chemist. We rewind a bit back to 1984 where Cut breaks down his history and journey as a dj and record collector. He also drops some hints about to future projects that we should all be on the look out for. Hope you dig this chat as much I had recording it!  And stay updated with his releases and info.

Fun night earlier at Sonos Studios in Hollywood and hosting the Q&A with Yuna. I asked about her inspirations and what she enjoyed listening to while getting into that zone. She mentioned lots of SBTRKT and Frank Ocean.  Im excited to play some new cuts off her new record tonight on my KCRW show. Producers include Chad Hugo, Robin Hannibal, Om’mas Keith and many more talented folks behind the boards. The crowd was very much receptive towards her new songs and Im looking forward to hearing your feedback on this wonderful new record. Grab it! It drops Tuesday! If you have been listening to my radio show for the past 5 years then odds are you might have heard a Maylee Todd record.  I became intrigued after watching her amazing youtube videos that consist of sheer talent and humor. She is this week’s guest on the ANTVALA podcast and after our little chat it all began to make sense where all these elements came from. She shares some pretty interesting knowledge about what it’s like to be the daughter of an Elvis impersonator and much more!

Last night in Brooklyn was incredible! This whole trip was incredible. It was great to see soo many friends from all over the world come out and get down with us! The jump off at FREE CANDY was something. Big big big love to all the folks at Redbull Sound Select // Move Forward Music and Plug Research for making this event happen.  ALL the acts were incredible and different from one another. I got to see my faves Tanya Morgan and Amp Live but got introduced to the sounds of Rat King, Pegasus Warning, YC the Cynic, Wavy Spice, The Ton Tons, Emily Bell. Myth Sizer and his crew got the crowd moving and it was nice to finally meet and enjoy Denitia and Sene in the flesh!  And a big shout out to Wavy Spice the Versace Hottie for her flows! She knows how to work a crowd.

On another note, I am humbled by the amazing turn out of friends who came out and I got to see. Brooklyn really showed love and it was an honor to get the crowd moving through out the night.  It was also great to meet so many listeners of my radio show and fans of my blog as well. Sometimes when Im in the basement I really have no clue as to who is listening but after last night It’s very evident NYC is all ears!  Big love!  Until next time….
