Some of personal faves at the moment. A collection of the visual, fashion with a blend of music. Kirkis has been getting love on my radio show for a minute now. Ratking is playing Coachella and finally on people’s radars. Sophia Chang + Ari have an amazing eye and creative process. King Krule just dropped a new vid worth catching. Peep below…

Kirkis is from Melbourne. Brought to my attention from the Wondercore camp and continiously blows me away with his musical doings. This is a totally bugged out video but I like it!

Ratking hail from NY. I had the honor of playing with them at the RedBull Soundselect party at CMJ and man! What an expieience watching these youngin’s take the stage and command of the crowd. Visuals on point thanks to Ari Marcopoulos.

Speaking of Ari. Get hip to his work. I found this inspiring piece on him breaking down his experiences as a photographer on the train.

Sophia Chang is an ill illustrator! Her designs make me scratch my head. I tried to get her on my podcast this week but no response. She’s in town for the Babes Show in Long Beach but oh well! Once bumped into her at Reed Space in NY but was too nervous to say what up. Peep her work

King Krule just dropped a video for A Lizard State. This album made my Top 10 of last year. Video is super cool with a throw back to the visuals and stylings of a Hitchcock flick.

BEST OF 2013 PT 1

Here it is! Part One is now enjoyable on demand. Part Two’s playlist is up and possibly my greatest show ever in the history of being on radio! Hold tight for that stream. But this one was a great way to reflect back on all the releases that might be under the radar, above the radar, slept on’s and recent finds of old classics that got love on my show on Monday nights.  This one was super fun! Hope you dig!

I first heard his music and I must confess it, it was a little strong on the sexy side of things. Cool in terms of sonic texture but this distinct vocal that kinda kicked in assuring the listener that everything was cool and turn down the lights. But the more I began to listen the more I started to appreciate the sonic textures of all the sounds. And then it all clicked. And then I heard the Miguel cover of “Sure Thing” and then I fell in love!  I appreciate what he is doing with the beats and song writing all merged together into a collage that is so dam unique!

I hope you dig this chat with Melbourne’s Oscar Key Sung. He just did a US Tour and we discuss his experiences of playing new music for a new audience as well as his appreciation for metal music and woman! Enjoy and peep more of his music here.

This was shot and recorded last week on the final day of the Hiatus Kaiyote meet and greet tour.  Last week Gilles Peterson of UK’s Radio 1 picked Tawk Tomahawk as his album of the week. Just prior Pharaoh Monch and Jean Grae raved about HK. Enjoy this sit down I had with vocalist Nai Palm as we talk about the band and what it’s like to be loved by Erykah Badu, The Roots, Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective.

Im also excited that Nai Palm has hand selected a set of records for me to play showcasing the sounds of Australia tonight and as an added bonus, a listen to the new joint she and Taylor Mcferrin have been working on. Tune in tonight at Midnight (PST) on 89.9 FM and worldwide at KCRW.com

:: Live From My Living Room | Dr. Jekyll ::

Here it is! A brand new video from Hiatus Kaiyote, out of Melbourne. I’m proud to have been playing these guys for the past 6 months nonstop and starting to see these guys get some buzz!  This song specifically is what did it for me. The keys on Nakamarra are smooth and hit hard on certain chords while Nai Palm delivers playful vocals that bounce around yet make you just want to hug her!  Check out the video for the track below!
