Pulled this one from the vaults. Recorded in Los Angeles the day after a wild night at Church! I remember being totally tired and exhausted from the night before and I can hear it in my voice. Nai Palm on the other hand sounds like a trooper!  Well time has passed since first meeting the group in the Lower East Side and Im happy to see them grow and develop support after an amazing stint at this year’s SXSW and co/signage from Badu, ?uestlove and most recently Prince via twitter. Also they just got signed onto Salam Remi’s imprint on Sony.  I hope you dig this chat!

One of my best investments is my camera. Life is short. I often wonder what my seeds might think when they look back at this blog. Im not really sure I keep a blog. Sure I love art, culture, changing tides in fashion and music but this is more than that.  This is a documentation of time and space. From everything I play on the radio to being allowed to have the freedom to do the things that I wish to do (i.e interviews, mixes, chats) and just capturing all that surrounds me.  It allows me to do things my way.  It’s not always the best way but its my creative hub to do the things that I feel get pushed aside.

When I look at these pics I am reminded of folks who took art into a direction that made them content at that time. I was in the right place at the right time to snap these shots of them in a certain place and they were okay with that. The trust between an artist and person with a camera is sacred.  I am grateful to be able to capture these musical movements with a radio show and a camera but I prefer to be on the front lines with camera in two, microphone on and ready to record.  I love to be in that space of creation. Being able to document it with a camera is exciting!  I encourage you to create your blog! Capture whats around you. Create a podcast!  Enjoy these snapshots! Let me know what you think!

This was shot and recorded last week on the final day of the Hiatus Kaiyote meet and greet tour.  Last week Gilles Peterson of UK’s Radio 1 picked Tawk Tomahawk as his album of the week. Just prior Pharaoh Monch and Jean Grae raved about HK. Enjoy this sit down I had with vocalist Nai Palm as we talk about the band and what it’s like to be loved by Erykah Badu, The Roots, Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective.

Im also excited that Nai Palm has hand selected a set of records for me to play showcasing the sounds of Australia tonight and as an added bonus, a listen to the new joint she and Taylor Mcferrin have been working on. Tune in tonight at Midnight (PST) on 89.9 FM and worldwide at KCRW.com
