Since 2009 this band has had my attention. With the release of their self titled debut, Electric Wire Hustle had held my attention. I still pop in that record which stands against the test of time and hits hard. Fast forward to 2014 where Mara TK and Tay drop Love Can Prevail which instantly sounds nothing like the debut but in a very good way. It’s a new sound and a new direction with that timeless soul that only EWH can execute.

The band dropped by the HQ and dropped knowledge on the creative process as well as paying homage and giving love the source of their sound stateside. We were in absolute post party mode and the vibe was just ride and a full on celebration. Hope you enjoy!

It was great to meet the almighty Nikki Jean. She popped up on my radar with the support the Okay player community and then with her feature on Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. As a music lover and observer, Nikki just appeared every where and since 2007 across the musical spectrum dipping in different genres in the true spirit of “an artist”. This one ran a little long but well worth the listen! Hope you dig! Also as a bonus Nikki throw in an exclusive/sneak peak to a new cut of an Ab Soul cover!

Great site I use to kill time on back in college. I had a desk job in the Department of Theatre and OKP was my hub into the music world. It was the shift of me moving away from Spin, Rolling Stones and The Source Magazines and getting into content that was posted daily on the site. Then I would explore the message boards and engage in discussions (often heated) over who had a better verse, album or career. Now at 35 I know better to stay away from the online bait but I still gravitate towards OKP and appreciate the direction it is headed. Kevin from OKP recently swung by the basement for chat on my podcast in which he breaks down the site a little further. Take a listen. A few weeks back around the time of the  Sonos X Okayplayer Listening party for Yuna I linked with Kevin from Okayplayer.com. We had a great conversation and I knew right away I wanted to drag this guy into the basement for a chat about the wonderful site and his involvement with OKP. OKP has been this hub/community for folks who share ideas, links, debates and content in relation to artists and culture. I remember being in college and constantly refreshing the page with hopes of news or responses to my posts. Founded by ?uestlove of The Roots, OKP is now updated with with respective links curated to different interests. Big thanks to Kevin for swinging through. Hope you dig!

Last night felt good! It was a crazy weekend and to just be able to hit the basement alone, dim the lights and play the music that I love felt good. Some serious healing for my soul and hopefully yours. New music from Tiny Hearts, Pusha T, Foreign Exchange, Elvis Costello w/ The Roots, The Foreign Exchange, Nosaj Thing, The Robert Glasper Experiment plus some Patti Smith, Los Pecos and Donell Jones in the mix .  I appreciate your ears and us keeping each other company every Monday night!  Hope you dig this!
