Chance is really shaking up 2013 with his ACID RAP mix tape, feature on the new Red Hot Fela feature and appearances on HOT97.  This time around we see him with electro soul crooner James Blake for an interesting blend of two separate worlds that work perfectly.

Last night felt good! It was a crazy weekend and to just be able to hit the basement alone, dim the lights and play the music that I love felt good. Some serious healing for my soul and hopefully yours. New music from Tiny Hearts, Pusha T, Foreign Exchange, Elvis Costello w/ The Roots, The Foreign Exchange, Nosaj Thing, The Robert Glasper Experiment plus some Patti Smith, Los Pecos and Donell Jones in the mix .  I appreciate your ears and us keeping each other company every Monday night!  Hope you dig this!

Sometime in late 2011 or early 2012 I got my hands on a track called “Spoon“. It was hypnotic, soulful and sexy fused with house beats and synths. I became curious as to who created this track and thats when I got hipped to Rudimental. The song was on rotation on my Monday night radio show on KCRW and then the band dropped Home, a 12 track album with each song nothing like the other. It was an exploration of House, Electronic beats, Drum B Bass and so forth. 2 Years later the album went gold, topped the charts in the UK, touring the States and building a buzz.

We discuss the transition of being 4 young lads, working day jobs and now being in a position of creating and paying homage to the past. These young producers were not just super humble discussing their journey, but acknowledging that they are where they are based on hard work and sacrifice. I also love how they acknowledge their inspirations and forefathers of music such as Goldie, Shy FX, Todd Edwards, 90’s R&B and many others. Hope you enjoy this short but informative chat! And buy the album! It’s dope!

UK Songstress Laura Mvula continues to create stunning visuals to accompany her songs. “That’s Alright” is a double time soul gem that I think I watched about 4 times in one sitting. Her previous video for “Green Garden” is what blew me away but this one is heat! Some amazing dancing, usage of space and colors make this possibly one of the best videos of 2013!  Watch it! Let me know what you think!  And the content is on point!

It was a great way to cap up a gorgeous day in LA. Since her show at the El Rey was sold out I knew my last hope would be the free in store at Amoeba. Jessie did about 4-5 songs and thankfully all the ones I loved! Her album “Devotion” has been on repeat for the past couple months including selections off her EP. But it was the Disclosure remix of Runnin that hold me sold on Ms. Ware!  So great to see music lovers in the building. Big thanks to Gazoo at Amoeba for the front row access!  You can also check out Jessie and the band on Morning Becomes Eclectic on Wednesday, 23rd of January during the 11 am hour on KCRW! I’ll be there!  Hope you dig these pics!

I love this video about the Fitzroy Lodge in the UK.  This gym was founded in 1908 by Mr. Bailey who wanted to improve his community by giving the youth a place to learn discipline and implement skills that would help them in life.  Big up to Port Magazine for this awesome video!

UK’s Bondax strikes again with cool post Summer time grooves with this latest video for “Baby I Got That”. As a fan of electronic music on all fronts, I love Bondax!  Very atmospheric chill beats that place you in a zone. And the best part about it all is the fact that they are 17 and 18 year old producers!   With this latest video, they demonstrate a deep appreciation for the 90’s soul with what sounds like Soul II Soul drum samples fused with keys and R&B samples.  Love it!  Listen to more here.

This is someone who I have been championing for a minute.  This brother has been hustling for a minute now with a few record industry setbacks but thats not stopping him. Liam Bailey has been teaming up with the Truth And Soul label for a couple of singles that are just awesome!  Earlier in the year Liam made his way out to LA and I got to take him to Canters on Fairfax and just talk about this crazy industry.
