Special De La Soul tribute in two parts!? Special post Valentine Sexy mix?! Levi Maestro drops knowledge?! All on one show. Man this one was full of fun in the basement this past Monday night! Big love to all who pledged and help me raise my goal of $1,000 in 3 hours after midnight.  You all got thanked name by name on air. Kicked things off with The Weekend covering Bey + new gems from Vic Mensa, Cashmere Cat, Tourist, a nice TRP remix. The TRP hail from London and Paris. Digging their work! Towards the end we travel to Columbia, Angola and Los Angeles via the new work from Chicano Batman. We close things out with some soul via Donny Hathaway and Sam Smith. By now if you follow me on Instagram or have seen one of my dj sets you might get the sense that Drunk In Love is my jam of 2014. Lots of cool remixes floating around the net but this one starts off super cool and kind eh. Monday night KCRW favorite The Weeknd has taken a jab at a cover/remix. Played this on my radio show a couple of times (Clean version of course) and am really looking forward to actually sitting down and listening to this entire record.  The Weeknd always has this way of singing in such a dark manner of situations that would normally require excitement from others.  I’ve always appreciated that about him. It’s like success during a storm.  That Pharrell remix of Wanderlust is something special but this chorus has been on my mind often. Any time Drizzy + Weeknd team up I can expect something nice form the two.

Best show ever!  I think I was implanted on Earth on April 12th 1978 just for this show!  From the start it felt right. Im very tactical in musical placement and sometimes one song can throw off the vibe for me. But this is just full of new heat from Saux, Okapii, Dj A1, Jaw Jam, Cashmere Cat, James Blake, Nanna B, Twinsmatic plus classics from Donald Byrd, Stevie and on and on. I have been on this real soul kick as of late and so I broke out the Weeknd, Jhene Aiko and Jeremih records. Something about that dark soul at 2 am that just feels right.  And make sure to listen to the closer of the program that comes to us via France. The project is entitled Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo from All City!  Perfect way to end the vibes.

This is possibly one of my favorite Weeknd songs out of his current catalogue of music. I remember playing this on KCRW earlier last year and having it on repeat.  “Rolling Stone” showcases not only his vocal range but excellent song writing. So great to see this brother building a bigger buzz post Coachella. Peep the video!
